The appeal of the virtual world i.e. phones/laptops/VR etc is the experience of plugging yourself in, being online. The virtual world brings us the same comfort that our imaginations did when we were children, difference is that the virtual world is almost tangible. We hold it our hands and now with VR we can almost physically immerse ourselves in a world of our own. You can tamper with privacy, you can choose who sees you (so you think). You can build yourself, choose what you look like, like rebirthing yourself into a new world.
